Valley of the Kings
swc2.hccs.edu/proberts/gallery/html/don_ritchson/home.html
Across the Nile from the great temple complexes of Luxor and Karnak is a vast 'City of the Dead'. In deep valleys on the western side of the river, the bodies of pharaohs, queens and nobles of the second millennium BCE were buried with all the ritual necessary to ensure their survival in the afterlife. The famous Valley of the Kings is only one part of this whole great necropolis. The valley is a remote, desolate place with no vegetation. Rising above the area is the Qurn ("horn"), a mountain which many regard as a natural pyramid shape, which presides over the entire cemetery. Over 60 pharaohs' tombs have been discovered, but only a small number can be visited. Posted at 9:33am on Sat, Oct 25 2008

The Pyramid Texts
www.sacred-texts.com/egy/pyt/index.htm
The Pyramid Texts were funerary inscriptions that were written on the walls of the early Ancient Egyptian pyramids at Sakkara. These date back to the fifth and sixth dynasties, approximately the years 2350-2175 B.C.E. However, because of extensive internal evidence, it is believed that they were composed much earlier, circa 3000 B.C.E. The Pyramid Texts are, therefore, essentially the oldest sacred texts known. The Egyptian Hieroglyphs
www.ancientscripts.com/egyptian.html
The Egyptian Hieroglyphs is among the old writing system in the world. Unlike its contemporary cuneiform Sumerian, Egyptian Hieroglyph's origin is much more obscure. There is no identifiable precursor It was once thought that the origin of Egyptian Hieroglyphs are religious and historical, but recent developments could point to an economical impetus for this script as well as push back the time depth of this writing system.
